Inola STEM teams from the elementary, middle school, and high school recently competed in the annual Boat Races held at the Pryor YMCA on April 8. The event showcased creativity, teamwork, and engineering skills across all grade levels.
The Inola Elementary team had an outstanding performance, earning an impressive win in the competition. Led by STEM teacher Mrs. Shannon Mootry, fourth-grade STEM students led the way, with one team standing out above the rest.
A few days prior to the race, Inola High School senior basketball standouts Travis Weast and Caden Thompson visited the elementary students to see the boat that had been designed and built in their honor. Inspired by the two athletes, Brooks Walton and his team dedicated their boat to Weast and Thompson—and their design proved to be a winning one.
In total, the elementary STEM program entered four boats in the competition, highlighting the students’ hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm for hands-on learning.
