In a testament to Inola School's commitment to academic excellence, a capable team of scholars has received an exclusive invitation to compete in the prestigious National Academic Championship (NAC). This invitation marks a significant achievement for the dedicated students and their mentors, who have tirelessly pursued intellectual pursuits and demonstrated outstanding knowledge in various academic disciplines. Inola's eighth grade team was OAAC (Oklahoma Association for Academic Competition) District, Region and Area undefeated Champions, and then State Runner-up. Their impressive 20-1 record and total points was the best in the state in their division. They were also state runner-up in the National Science Bowl Regional tournament. Members of the Inola High School JV team competed at Nationals last year as eighth graders in Washington DC, having finished first in the NSB (National Science Bowl) tournament, as well as in the New Orleans NAC where they finished third and qualified for the NAC playoffs. Finishing eighth overall earned them a return invitation this year. Additionally, most of this team also competed in the “I Want Answers” tournament held at Rogers State University throughout the fall of 2023 and finished second out of 16 teams. Look out, Chicago! There’s a herd of Longhorns headed your way in June! Under the guidance of coach Carol Holland, the team has honed their skills in subjects ranging from mathematics and science to literature and history. The rigorous preparation sessions and collaborative efforts have not only enriched their academic knowledge but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. The National Academic Championship, slated to take place during June in Chicago, will bring together some of the most brilliant young minds from around the nation. Teams will compete in a series of challenging rounds that cover a broad spectrum of academic disciplines, ultimately crowning one team as the national champion.

The event featured a range of weight classes, allowing young athletes to compete against others of similar strength and size. From squats to bench presses and deadlifts, the competitors demonstrated not only their physical prowess but also their commitment to the sport. Three standout performers from Inola included Aiden Bruce (8th grade), Landon Ford (9th grade) and Owen Ellis (9th grade). These three won their weight divisions, qualifying them for the Junior High Powerlifting State Competition next week on Thursday, March 14, at El Reno High School.

The Inola Speech and Debate team hosted their annual end of season tournament this weekend! These kids did incredible in welcoming 18 schools with 220 students plus their coaches and over 75 volunteer judges to our school. We had over 360 entries!!! They hosted and also competed while at it! These tournaments cannot and will not happen without the help of a supportive school system and community support. We have a few additional regional qualifications in Tyler Yoder 2nd 4A Prose, Sadie Ferguson 1st 4 Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking and Ian Buchanan and Landen Soderquist 1st in 4A Policy Debate. Anna Spiri also got 2nd place in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking. And while our kids who competed in champs did not place since we do not factor our team into the placings at our own tournament; Lily Troyer and Tyler Yoder came out on top in Public Forum Debate along with Lily Johnson and Aubree West also in Public Forum Debate and Cooper Russell in Lincoln Douglas Debate. Danika Burton and Ian Buchanan also made finals in the championship division of Dramatic Duet.
