Students from the Inola High School Advanced Choir, joined by several singing parents and alumni, traveled to New York City last weekend for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at the world-famous Carnegie Hall.

The group not only experienced the honor of performing in one of the most iconic concert venues in the world, but also had the rare opportunity to sing under the direction of Eric Whitacre, a Grammy Award-winning composer and conductor widely recognized for his impact on modern choral music.

For many students, the trip marked several firsts — including their first airplane flight and their first visit to New York City. Beyond rehearsals and the performance, students immersed themselves in a variety of cultural and educational experiences. The group toured Columbia University, with a special tour led by Inola alumnus Jonathan Menzel, navigated the city’s subway system, walked through Central Park, attended a Broadway show, and took a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty.

In addition to creating lasting memories, students gained valuable insight into the power of music and the opportunities it can provide. The experience reinforced the importance of dedication, hard work, and pursuing one’s passions.

Students participating included Jacob Binkley, Sam Martin, Ethan Rigell, J.J. Vera, Jake Young, Raylee Cagle, Ashlyn Holloway, Mailey Pankratz, Lilli Moore, and Joely Wilson.

Singing parents and alumni included Inola Choir Director Brian Holloway, Andrew Holloway, Adrienne Rigell, Samantha Martin, Julie Pankratz, and Greg Pankratz.

This unforgettable experience highlights the continued excellence of Inola’s music program and the meaningful opportunities it provides for its students.
