The Inola High School FFA chapter brought creativity, teamwork, and a little bit of Route 66 history to this year’s Inola Hay Day, earning second place in the annual Hay Bale Competition.
Led by FFA advisors Maggie Brown and Michael Wetherell, Inola FFA students spent approximately two weeks designing and creating an impressive hay bale display inspired by the famous Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.
The theme for the 2026 Inola Hay Day is Route 66, giving students the perfect opportunity to showcase one of the most recognizable roadside attractions associated with the historic highway. Cadillac Ranch is a unique public art installation featuring ten vintage Cadillac automobiles partially buried nose-first in the ground along a highway in Texas.
Created in 1974 by the San Francisco art collective Ant Farm and funded by local millionaire Stanley Marsh III, Cadillac Ranch features ten Cadillac sedans dating from 1949 to 1963. The vehicles are positioned at a 60-degree angle, creating the distinctive and instantly recognizable installation.
The Inola FFA students took inspiration from the iconic roadside attraction and transformed their hay bales into their own creative interpretation of Cadillac Ranch. finish.
